How to be the bigger person and take the high road?

High road …isn’t that like the most omnipresent advice we give and receive from people (pretty much like viruses).

Take for instance-

Oh your partner broke up with you for this ( this being something really silly ) . Take the high road..be the bigger person.. forgive.

Oh so you were not considered for the promotion? Be the bigger person…keep working hard like you always have..don’t let it affect you.

Oh so you can’t concentrate on the project? Well, be the bigger person…you have to overcome your inhibitions.

Wait, what? Be the bigger person even with your own self?

Well That’s the trending advice these days or maybe since always.

So how to do that..take the high road?

First things first, I am sorry to have taken your precious time this far( if you have scrolled this far) but I don’t think there is a formula.

Infact there is no need for one, because somebody invented this beautiful word- “experience”.

I would rather suggest-

1.Cursing and screaming at your partner(but after that close the chapter for god’s sake)

2.Be grumpy and disinterested at work because you worked hard and deserved the promotion.

3.Binge watch whatever.Give up on your project.sulk.

But about that word, experience …at some point you will understand people, and stuff around you.

And when that happens it’s almost like you unraveled the mysteries around the universe.

It’s a good thing..but also a sad thing somehow..because simultaneous to unraveling the world, you also unravel your innocence, never to get it back again. It’s like a phase of your life has been spent.

What comes with it is weird wisdom. Well you now find yourself justifying on your adversary’s behalf…it’s like he broke up because he had his reasons, the promotion ..maybe she is more deserving, the project.. I have to work on it.

And just like that, you take the high road, even without consciously or rationally weighing in the other roads.

Taking the high road is like meditation…first it doesn’t seem like our thing, later we do it because it’s good for health, but once we master it, it’s not only effortless, but spiritually rewarding.

And that’s how it is supposed to be…high road isn’t just another road ready to be walked on..bigger person isn’t just a one off thing..it has to come organically.

Until then, keep gathering experiences and living life and cursing people and sulking in between. All you need to do is keep your eyes open and your ears functioning.
