How much reflection is too much reflection?
Since recently, I have stumbled onto this you-tuber who goes around asking old people- “How old are you?-Question no 1” and they almost invariably reply somewhere between 65–81, and then the second question goes- “What is the one thing that you regret the most/ or you know would like to do differently,if given a chance”?
People reply in answers ranging from- the work they chose, the age they got married and most reply — No, I have lived a good life..don’t want to change any part of it.
But honestly, it’s hard right? To scrutinize your life yourself and point out the wrongs and not be able to do anything about it now.
Forget 70 year olds, it’s difficult for people of any age past 20, you remember the career path you could have chosen, the boy you should have dated etc.
But then how much reflecting is too much reflecting? If we reflect on life, so many things would stand out. But all things thought, we are who we are because of these wrongs, because of our decisions and if we are still thinking living beings, then we didn’t do a bad job either. We have working organs and a thinking brain.
If we keep reflecting, when do we live? Makes me remember about this one stand up comedian who talked about nostalgia, about a guy who gets nostalgic before even living the experience he is nostalgic about.Like oh college days.. once this will be over…but hey, live it first!
To sum it up, whatever feels wrong at any point in time, don’t do it. Say sorry, say no, move on. The greatest piece of advice I got from Naval Ravikant’s Almanack is this- “Don’t do something for a day which you wouldn’t do for your whole life”.
Choose that gut feeling and forget reflection. Your life is going great. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
